Orsted Sues US Government Over Trump-Ordered Halt to Revolution Wind Project

Danish renewable energy company Ørsted has filed a lawsuit against the US government after President Donald Trump’s administration ordered a halt to its nearly completed Revolution Wind project off Rhode Island. The multi-billion-dollar offshore wind farm, developed in partnership with Skyborn Renewables, was 80% complete with 45 of 65 turbines installed when the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) suspended work, citing “national security concerns.” RSTED described the decision as ‘arbitrary and capricious,” arguing that it lacked statutory authority and violated federal procedures. Attorneys general from Connecticut and Rhode Island also plan legal action to overturn the stop-work order. Since returning to office in January, Trump has issued several directives freezing federal support and permits for wind projects, dismissing them as costly eyesores while favouring fossil fuels. The Commerce Department is also investigating turbine imports on security grounds, raising tariff risks. Ørsted warned that the freeze undermines investments in clean energy and threatens US climate and energy targets.
